Southeast Asian therapies to be highlighted at the upcoming Retreat Spa at The Sukhothai Shanghai

23 Apr 2018
The Retreat spa at The Sukhothai Shanghai, a new lifestyle destination in Shanghai, is slated to open on 15 May 2018.

With a contemporary aesthetic from design firm Neri&Hu, The Retreat will present a series of Southeast Asian-inspired treatments designed to deliver a renewing experience to guests.

Located on the lower ground level, The Retreat is comprised of two private treatment suites, one with a whirlpool, and three single treatment suites.

The Retreat offers a variety of treatments in four categories: The Retreat Signature, Discover Lava Shells, Full Body Massage and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The menu is highlighted by Southeast Asian therapeutic treatments paired with blended essential oils such as jasmine, lemongrass, patchouli and bergamot, all handpicked by therapists to target different needs.

Signature treatments include a Thai massage with herbal compress, Himalayan warm stone massage and Nepalese-style tea exfoliation.

The Retreat uses French natural skincare brand Themae, which draws inspiration from the art and culture of tea, as the exclusive skincare line. Themae combines the essences of Japanese green tea, Chinese white tea, Sri Lankan black tea and rooibos tea, which are then blended with French spring water.

The Retreat’s logo combines the symbols of lotus and water, with the lotus representing inner beauty and rebirth, and water symbolising purity, fluidity and rhythms of life. The two combined is designed to represent a place of peace and serenity.

The hotel is also furnished with a 198sq m, 24-hour fitness studio with Technogym equipment, and a 25m indoor heated pool, sauna and steam rooms.

Yoga and Pilates classes are available on a regular basis and conducted by professional trainers.

The Retreat offers annual spa membership with privileges such as special discount on treatments, complimentary access to the recreational facilities and a Themae gift set. Holders of the highest tier membership, Jadeite, are also entitled to unlimited treatments, food and beverage vouchers and a complimentary stay at the Signature Suite.

Located in the shopping and tourist hotspot of West Nanjing Road and Shimen Yi Road, The Sukhothai Shanghai is a contemporary design hotel that forms an integral part of the HKRI Taikoo Hui mixed-use complex, which also includes office towers and a shopping mall.

A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the hotel features 170 bedrooms and 31 suites ranging and five restaurants, and is scheduled to open on 28 April.
